AFFIRM UPDATE

Our largest post-covid attendance was recorded at a Special Congregational Meeting on Sunday, November 26th. Members and adherents overwhelmingly voted in favour on two motions. The first updated our Vision and Principles to be more inclusive and publicly declare that “We Celebrate, Respect and are Thankful for All Creation.”  We further voted that United Churches of Langley join Affirm United!  At a special celebration service in the new year, Affirm United/S'Affirm Ensemble representatives will join us to certify that we are an Affirming Ministry!

Our new Vision and Principles and designation as an Affirming Ministry means that we have Publicly, Intentionally, and Explicitly dedicated ourselves as a congregation that is universally welcoming to all. UCoL will be a clear choice for members of the LGBTQAI2S+ or their supporters, looking for an Affirming congregation. Affirm logos in our building and our promotional material will let the public know we recognize that love is love, and people of any gender or sexuality are welcome by us and loved by God. Stay tuned for our Affirming Ministry celebration details and more opportunities to better welcome all: our friends, neighbours, and all those looking for an inclusive and safer place of worship in the community.

Thank you all for your engagement in the Affirm process, which the Board initiated in 2019; for your dedication and openness to learning, your questions and engagement, and your willingness to grow through this process. Your vote helps us to continue weaving a faith that matters - and invites new and vibrant threads into our tapestry.
